Day 1: 


After your arrival we will transfer you to your hotel.

Spend the rest of the day at your own leisure.

Day 2:


A full day today with a guided city tour including famous landmarks such as the St. Sophia Basilica, once the largest church in Christendom, and the Hippodrome with its various monuments including a 3500 year old red granite Egyptian obelisk.  Then we’ll focus on the Ottoman Empire and visit two of this period’s finest works – Topkapi Palace and the Blue Mosque.  Your city tour will end with a fascinating walk through the Grand Bazaar.  In the evening dinner will be served at a well known fish restaurant in Kumkapi, where you can sample Turkish cuisine and soak up the atmosphere.

Day 3: 

Gallipoli - Canakkale

Today we will drive to Gallipoli and tour the most significant World War I sites beginning with the open-air museum.  Your visit will include, Anzac Cove, the Lone Pine Cemetery, Johnston’s Jolly, the Nek, Chunuk Bair, Lone Pine and the 57th Regiment memorial and war museum.  Your journey then continues across the Dardanelles to Canakkale.

Day 4: 

Canakkale - Troy – Pergamum - Kusadasi

Today we will drive to the legendary archaeological site of Troy, scene of the Trojan War, before crossing Mount Ida and arriving in Pergamum.  Pergamum is one of Turkey’s oldest inhabited sites from pre-historic times through the Ionic, Roman and Byzantine civilisations.  On view will be the ancient acropolis and the Altar of Zeus.  After exploring this site, we’ll then proceed to the coastal town of Kusadasi, once the home of pirates but today a very pleasant coastal resort town.

Day 5: 

Kusadasi - Ephesus- Kusadasi

Today we will visit and explore the ancient and well preserved city of Ephesus, once a centre of trade and Greek culture until the nearby harbour silted up.  Our visit will continue on to the House of Mother Mary where she is supposed to have spent her last years. There will be an opportunity to see local handicrafts if you are interested. In the afternoon we will visit the historic village of Sirince which  has preserved a traditional way of life and where you can taste local foods.  We will be eating dinner at a local village restaurant in Sirince.

Day 6: 

Hierapolis –Pamukkale  -Marmaris

We continue our journey today, leaving Kusadasi and heading towards Pamukkale, famous for it’s stepped water terraces. Then we visit the travertines and the ancient city of Hierapolis.  On view here will be the Nekropol with 1200 Anatolian gravestones, and ancient Roman ruins lying below a pool of shallow thermal waters.  Today’s journey will then continue onto Marmaris.

Day 7: 

Marmaris – Koycegiz (Dalyan River) - Fethiye

An interesting day today beginning with a drive to the lakeside town of Koycegiz.  From here we will take a boat cruise to ‘turtle beach’, home to the endangered loggerhead turtle. Take a wander along the beach, or if you like, smother yourself in a mud-wrap at the local mudhouse. This area is commonly known as Dalyan River. Enroute to Fethiye you will have an opportunity to explore the Greek village of Kayakoy with it’s 3500 year old ruins set on a hillside.  Here we will walk through the streets and continue to see the Lycian tombs of ancient kings, cut in to the sheer rock-walls.  Dinner tonight will be in a local restaurant.

Day 8: 


Today is a relaxing day aboard our cruise boat, cruising and exploring the Turkish coastline, bays and islands.  You might like a dip at “Cleopatra’s Bay”. It’s said locally that if you swim in these waters, you will become a true beauty!  Lunch is served on board and during the day there will be plenty of opportunity to stop for swims and snorkelling.

Day 9: 

Saklikent Gorge - Antalya

Our journey continues today as we visit the beautiful Saklikent Gorge, Turkey’s longest and deepest canyon formed by melting snow. There is time to explore the gorge via the board-walk, but only if the waters are not too high. We then have a wonderful drive up and over the Taurus Mountains before making our way to Antalya. Dinner is at your hotel.

Day 10: 

Antalya (Aspendos) - Konya - Cappadocia

We have an early departure today, leaving firstly for Konya but stopping enroute at Aspendos to view the well preserved ancient amphitheatre.  Our journey also allows us to visit the scenic Tinaztepe sink hole and cave.  Konya is the home of the Mevlevi Whirling Dervishes and we will visit the Mausoleum of Mevlana, home to the whirling dervishes and site of the tomb of the Mevlana or Rumi, an important place of pilgrimage.  This afternoon we will be driving on to Cappadocia via Seljuk, a fine example of an ancient Silk Road caravanserai.

Day 11: 


Rise early today and take advantage of the optional balloon ride over the local terrain.  Our guided excursion today will include visits to the Kaymakli Underground City where early Christians hid from their persecutors, the open-air museum at Goreme displaying Byzantine frescoes and paintings from the 10th to 13th century and, the natural fortress at Uchisar where you will be able to browse traditional local handicrafts including carpets, tiles, onyx and pottery.  At Tursan you will have the opportunity to sample local wines from the Cappadocia region. Tonight we’ll go out to a show of whirling dervishes.

Day 12: 

Cappadocia - Ankara - Safranbolu

You may choose to go on a balloon flight today instead of yesterday. After breakfast at the hotel, we’ll leave for Safranbolu via Ankara.  In Ankara you’ll visit the Mausoleum of Ataturk, the father of modern Turkey and the nearby museum.  This afternoon you arrive in wonderful Safranbolu. The small town is a UNESCO World Heritage site which is considered to be a living open-air museum, noted for its splendid Ottoman mansions.

Day 13: 

Safranbolu - Istanbul (B)

This morning we will visit the old town of Safranbolu then continue our journey towards Istanbul with an afternoon visit to the huge Grand Bazaar.
