Day 1: (Wed)

Arrive Cairo

After your arrival at Cairo International Airport we will transfer you to your hotel.

Overnight: Cairo

Day 2: (Thu)

This morning we set off to explore the mysteries of the Pyramids. First we visit the Great Pyramids of Giza. There will be time to wander and explore, plenty of photo opportunities and if open you will be able to enter the central chamber of Cheops. We then visit the Solar Boat Museum, and of course the mighty Sphinx. After lunch nearby, we drive through farmland to Memphis, once the capital of the Old Kingdom. Here you will see the incredible alabaster statue of Ramses II. From here we drive to Sakkara to view the World’s oldest stone structure, the “step” pyramid.

Overnight: Cairo (B,L)

Day 3: (Fri)

An early start will see us at the Egyptian Museum at opening time. The museum holds an astonishing array of archaeological finds, but nothing compares to the exquisite riches of Tutankhamun, whose death-mask is magnificent. After lunch we enter the world of Islamic Cairo, and visit the Citadel and the 19th Century Mosque of Mohammed Ali. We then explore incredible Khan El Khalili Bazaar. There is time to ensure that you have tea or coffee at Café Fishawi – not only the oldest continuous running restaurant on Earth, but also the place where Naguib Mahfouz literally wrote his wonderful novels based in and around this part of Cairo.

Overnight: Cairo (B,L)

Day 4: (Sat)

Cairo - Luxor

Today we will transfer you to the Cairo Domestic terminal for you flight down to Luxor. Upon arrival in Luxor, you will be met by our representative who will escort you to your cruise ship where you will check-in, and then leave your baggage in your cabin. This afternoon it’s off to visit Karnak Temple. This enormous site is one of the highlights of a trip to Egypt and you will have plenty of time to explore before moving on to Luxor Temple in the evening. You then return to your ship.

Overnight: SS Hadeel (B,L,D)

Day 5: (Sun)

Before departure, you will travel across the river to the wonderful Valley of the Kings. We will be able to enter a number of tombs. Tutankhamen’s tomb is now often closed in an effort to protect it, but if you are lucky to be there on a day in which it is open, you’ll be able to purchase a ticket to enter and explore. Notwithstanding, the Valley of the Kings is a fabulous experience. From here we visit the Valley of the Queens, home to the Temple of Hatshepsut. Hatshepsut ruled Egypt in disguise! He was a she, and managed to hide her identity from all and sundry. The only female Pharaoh.

Overnight: SS Hadeel (B,L,D)

Day 6: (Mon)

Luxor - Esna

An early start takes us on a leisurely sail up river. There is plenty of time to sit on the deck and watch idyllic villages and farmlands seemingly drift by. Scenes appear to be out of almost medieval times, with oxen ploughing the fields, and fishermen with nets and spears. Arrival at Esna is fascinating, as traders paddles tiny boats out to try to sell you all manner of cotton goods.

Overnight: SS Hadeel (B,L,D)

Day 7: (Tue)

Esna - el-Kab - Edfu

Our quiet voyage up the Nile takes us to el-Kab.  This was probably one of the first cities of Egypt and large part of its imposing walls are still there. We will also see one of the beautiful tombs cut in to the cliff wall.  We then continue sailing to Edfu where we will visit the almost perfectly preserved Temple of Horus.  We anchor for the night at one of the small Nile Islands where we can enjoy an Egyptian barbeque perfectly prepared by our onboard chef

Overnight: SS Hadeel (B,L,D)

Day 8: (Wed)

Edfu - Wadi el-Shatt – Gebel el-Silsila

Sails are set early to go to Wadi el-Shatt where we will trek through the valley lined with boulders covered in hieroglyphs and stone-age inscriptions.  We continue to sail to Gebel el-Silsila where the sandstone for the temples of southern Egypt was quarried.  Overnight at the river bank where those who want can join the guide for a small walk in the countryside

Overnight: SS Hadeel (B,L,D)

Day 9: (Thu)

Gebel el-Silsila - Kom Ombo

We have a relaxing sail South to Kom Ombo today. After arrival we visit the Kom Ombo Temple. This beautiful temple is dedicated to both Sobek, the Crocodile God, and Horus, the Falcon God. It is set on a beautiful site overlooking the river, and there will be plenty of time to explore before we have dinner.

Overnight: SS Hadeel (B,L,D)

Day 10: (Fri)

This morning we continue sailing to Aswan. Upon arrival we meet our camels, and take a camel ride in to the Nubian desert to the abandoned monastery of St Simeon. From this vantage point we will also have a great view of the Agha Khan mausoleum. We then visit a Nubian village to see and learn more about Nubian culture.  This afternoon is free at leisure to enjoy the souq of Aswan, or relax on board your ship.

Overnight: SS Hadeel (B,L,D)

Day 11: (Sat)

Disembarkation - Abu Simbel - Cairo
